My Story

Tony Clark is a teaching professor at Arizona State University. Clark's first career was in the United States Marine Corps (1982-88), where he served as a rifle platoon squad leader and as a strategic and tactical acquisition (STA) platoon chief scout-sniper. He is a 1982 graduate of the First Recruit Training Battalion MCRD San Diego and the First Marine Division Infantry Training School at MCB Camp Pendleton. He graduated from the U.S. Marine Corps Non-Commissioned Officer School at MCRD San Diego in 1983. He is a 1985 graduate of the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment's scout-sniper course offered in Okinawa and First Marine Division Scout-Sniper School at MCB Camp Pendleton, and a 1986 Honor Graduate of the U.S. Marine Corps Scout-Sniper Instructor School at MCB Quantico. He has a Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation ribbon, Good Conduct medal, Sea Service Deployment ribbon with two bronze stars, and four meritorious masts. His American studies PhD is from the University of Kansas. Before joining the ASU faculty, he was faculty at the University of Kansas and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. From his current academic home in Applied Humanities and Interdisciplinary Studies at the ASU Polytechnic campus, he teaches Introduction to Film Studies, Film as History, and Combat in Film, as well as the two-semester U.S. History and American literature surveys.
